FAQs
Is Birthtrix worth the investment?
Birthtrix is not about paying for care - it’s about preparing for an experience that will shape how you enter parenthood. The skills, confidence, and understanding gained often extend well beyond birth into early parenting and family life.
Isn’t maternity care already free in New Zealand?
Yes - and we are very fortunate. Birthtrix does not replace midwifery or medical care. It complements it by providing education, tools, and preparation that the system simply doesn’t have time to offer.
Will this guarantee a natural or intervention-free birth?
No course can guarantee an outcome. Birthtrix supports all modes of birth. The goal is not a specific type of birth, but a positive experience where you feel informed, involved, and confident in your choices. No midwife or obstetrician can predict the path of a birth, even with a healthy mum and healthy baby, as unfortunately, sometimes issues can arise once labour has started.
Is this only for people planning a vaginal birth or home birth?
Not at all. Birthtrix supports all birth journeys - home births, birthing at a primary maternity unit, birthing at a hospital, and including planned caesareans and births that change course. Understanding what happens in labour rooms and operating theatres helps couples feel prepared rather than overwhelmed.
Why invest in a course when there’s so much free information online?
Information alone doesn’t build confidence. Birthtrix brings together evidence-based education, practical tools, guided practice, and personalised support - helping couples integrate knowledge, not just consume it.
Is my partner included?
Yes. Birthtrix is designed for couples. Partners learn how to actively support labour, provide comfort, reduce stress, and feel confident in their role - without feeling sidelined or unsure. You are already a family, working as a team.
Can I come by myself?
Absolutely! You may wish to give birth by yourself, or you may wish to pass on your learning to your partner if they are unable to attend. You are also welcome to bring a family member or friend.
When is the best time to do the course?
Any time during pregnancy is beneficial, though many couples find the second or early third trimester ideal. Refresher sessions are available for subsequent pregnancies.
How long have you been teaching?
It has now been a decade since Birthtrix began, and over the years, hundreds of couples have enjoyed and benefited from the course. After completing an American hypnobirthing course myself many years ago, I quickly realised that the New Zealand maternity system is so different from the American model. Drawing on my midwifery education, hypnotherapy training, and knowledge gained through the Debra Betts acupressure certification, I created Birthtrix as a positive birth course that offers honest, transparent, and practical support for the journey through labour and birth.
